Mastodons Defeat Oral Roberts for 10th Summit League Win

TULSA, Okla. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball earned its 10th Summit League win on Sunday (Nov. 10), when the Mastodons defeated Oral Roberts 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 27-25) in the Cooper Aerobics Center. Their 10th win in League play is the most for a Mastodon squad since 2012.
With the win, Purdue Fort Wayne has secured at least a fourth-place finish in the Summit League.
The first set was one of runs, as the two teams traded two-, three-, four- and five-point runs throughout. Near the end of the set, the 'Dons had a one-point advantage after a three-point ORU run at 22-21. Katie Crowe slammed down two kills from Kendyll Gebert for the 23rd and 24th points, putting the set out of reach.
In the second, the 'Dons started out going up 6-0 with five kills and a block. Crowe had two of her 13 kills in this run, while Sydney Boerst had one of her 13 kills and one of her team-high eight blocks. Oral Roberts chipped away at the Mastodons' lead, and even took a three-point lead at 17-14 after rattling off six straight. The 'Dons used two straight kills and a block from Boerst to tie it up. She then earned the 'Dons their 25th point on a kill.
The Golden Eagles went up 22-19 in the last set, but the 'Dons came out of a timeout and took four in a row, which included a kill from Crowe and a block from Boerst and Madelyn Wurster. After the score was tied at 25, the 'Dons picked up a kill from Wurster and a block from Sandra Hoevels and Elizabeth Fuerst to put it away. The third set featured 14 ties and five lead changes.
Purdue Fort Wayne out-blocked Oral Roberts 12-4, led by Boerst's eight. Crowe picked up a double-double with 10 digs to pair with her 13 kills.

The Mastodons return to the court for their final weekend of the regular season when they host South Dakota State and South Dakota on November 15 and 17, respectively. Sunday's match against South Dakota will be the Senior Day celebration for Hoevels, Fuerst and Je'Bria Green.
