Mastodons Eliminate Oral Roberts at Summit League Championship

DENVER - Behind a balanced attack on Friday night (Nov. 22), No. 3 Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball eliminated No. 6 Oral Roberts from the Summit League Championship with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-16) win over the Golden Eagles.
With the win, Purdue Fort Wayne moves on to the semifinal of the Championship to play the host No. 2 Denver on Saturday (Nov. 23). First serve will be at 8 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed here.
Fresh off being named to the All-Summit League Team, Katie Crowe led the floor in the attacking column, racking up 13 kills on the night. She notched her 35th-career double-double, pairing her offense with 10 digs. She also surpassed the 1,000-dig mark for her career.
In the first set, back-and-forth runs were the story until the 'Dons led 17-14. The Golden Eagles went on a 11-2 run that put the Mastodons down a set. The ensuing set was a rock-fight to the end, as there were six ties throughout. Purdue Fort Wayne put it out of reach with a 4-1 run to end the frame. Sidney Schiller and Sidney Boerst combined for the block that got that run started.
Purdue Fort Wayne never trailed in set three, but Oral Roberts never let the Mastodons out of sight. The 'Dons led 23-18 after Schiller and Boerst teamed up for a block, but the Golden Eagles rattled off a 6-1 run to tie it at 24. They held off a set point opportunity for the 'Dons at 24-23. Elizabeth Fuerst played a key role in the points that gave the 'Dons the set, as she worked with Boerst for a block for 25, and got the kill for 26.
ORU led in set four 14-11, but from then on it was all Mastodons. Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 14-2 run to force an early exit for Oral Roberts. Boerst picked up her 10th kill on the last point of the match. She coupled her double-digit kill performance with a match-high eight blocks. Schiller was the third Mastodon to reach double-digits, as she had 10 kills. Rachael Crucis notched a match-high 19 kills.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 18-13 and will play tomorrow against Denver. The Mastodons defeated the Pioneers on Arnie Ball Court 3-1 earlier this season, but dropped the road contest in Hamilton Gymnasium 3-1. Oral Roberts finishes its season at 8-23.
