Defense was the story of the first half, as Monmouth took a 24-15 lead into the break. Neither team shot better than 38.5 percent in either of the first two quarters.
Lappenküper had 18 of her 22 points in the second half, as she led the Mastodons to out-score the Hawks 18-15 in the final period. The Mastodons ended the game on a 9-1 run, holding Monmouth without a field goal in the final 4:48. Lappenküper had six of the nine points.
The Mastodons forced 18 Monmouth turnovers, including seven steals. Shayla Sellers and Lappenküper had three each.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 3-6, while Monmouth earned its first win of the season, moving to 1-4. The Mastodons are back in action on Wednesday (Dec. 4) when they head to SIUE for a midweek matchup.
