11/8/2019 9:39:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped its Summit League match with Omaha on Friday (Nov. 8) 3-1 (22-25, 31-29, 25-23, 25-21).
The opposites led the way for the Mastodons, as Madelyn Wurster and Elizabeth Fuerst had 15 and 13 kills. Fuerst also dropped four blocks in the stat sheet.
The Mastodons used a 4-0 run behind Sydney Boerst's serve to go up 17-14 to put the set out of reach. The Mavericks came within two at 24-22, but a timely timeout by the Mastodons iced the Omaha server into an error.
The second set was the definition of back-and-forth, as there were 26 ties between the two teams. The Mastodons had five set-point opportunities but could not capitalize. Sadie Limback from Omaha picked up an ace to end the extended set at 31-29.
The 'Dons had a 6-2 run midway through the third set to bring it to a 17-all draw, but Omaha took the last three points of the set. The 'Dons started off the fourth on a 7-1 push, but Omaha evened it up at 13, using a 10-2 run to eventually go up 19-14. The 'Dons defended against three set points, but the Mavericks took the match on their fourth try.
Four Mastodons had double-digit digs, as Katie Crowe (19), Sidney Schiller (11), Madison Gates (10) and Rachael Crucis (10) led a 66-dig effort.
The Mastodons fall to 15-12, 9-4 Summit League, while Omaha improves to 15-12, 8-5 Summit League. The 'Dons are back in action on Sunday at Oral Roberts with a 2 p.m. ET first serve.
