Konchar's Triple-Double Advances Mastodons to Summit League Semifinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Purdue Fort Wayne senior John Konchar recorded the first triple-double in Summit League Tournament history on Sunday night (March 10) in the Mastodons' 96-70 win over sixth-seeded South Dakota. He finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The third-seeded Mastodons move on to the Summit League Semifinals to face second-seeded Omaha on Monday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
In the first half alone, Konchar had eight points, eight rebounds and nine assists. He picked up his 10th point on a steal and dunk in transition that gave the 'Dons a 58-31 lead with 17:44 left. His 10th assist and 10th rebound came on the same possession, which resulted in a trey from Marcus DeBerry to give the Mastodons a 78-50 lead with 7:46 left. Konchar played only 28 minutes.
The Mastodons were hot in the first half, knocking in 11-of-19 three-pointers, including four from Matt Holba. The 'Dons put up 52 points in the first 20 minutes, heading to the locker room on a 17-5 run. Not only did they get it done on the offensive end, but the Mastodons shut South Dakota down on the defensive end. USD only shot 28.6 percent in the first half, 36.1 percent for the game.
Six Mastodons finished in double figures. Kason Harrell led with 21 points, followed by Konchar (18), Holba (15), Dee Montgomery (11), DeBerry (10), and Dylan Carl (10). The Mastodons shot 57.9 percent from the floor (33-of-57) and 53.3 percent from downtown (16-of-30).
Purdue Fort Wayne set the Summit League Tournament record for 3-pointers made in a game with 16 in the contest. The previous record was 15, set by Oakland in 2012.
The 'Dons improve to 18-14. South Dakota finishes their season 13-17.
