Men's Golf Begins Spring Break Trip With 13th Place Finish

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After nearly a month off, the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team returned to action at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, where the Mastodons finished in 13th place with a 36-hole score of 631. The 'Dons carded a 306 during the first round before closing out the tournament with a 325.
Hosted by LIU-Brooklyn, the par-72 LPGA International - Hills Course was played at 6,816 yards. Bethune Cookman took home the team championship with a two-day score of 584. Connor Schmidt of Drexel earned medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 3-under-par 141.
The Mastodons finished three shots out of 11th place and one back of 12th place Fairfield.
Clark Tiller paced the 'Dons in a tie for 24th place, shooting scores of 73 and 81 to finish at 154. Zach Schroeder finished one shot back with rounds of 76 and 79 to tie for 33rd. Eric Brinker carded scores of 75 and 84 to finish with a 159 and tie for 63rd place. Callahan Elzey tied for 85th position, shooting rounds of 82-81-163. Rounding out the team scoring was Luke Miller with scores of 83 and 86 to finish the tournament with a 169 and tie for 102nd.
The Mastodons had a pair of individual competing. Zac Turi tied for 63th shooting scores of 77-82-159. Finishing one shot back was Parker Deakyne with rounds of 78 and 82 to tie for 68th place.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to the course for the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational on Thursday, March 7 at LPGA International.
