Top Seed South Dakota State Defeats Mastodons In Quarterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team saw their 2018-19 season come to a close on Saturday (March 9) afternoon at the Summit League Tournament. The No. 8 seeded Mastodons fell to No. 1 seed South Dakota State 88-50. The 'Dons finish their season with a 7-22 record.
Hannah Albrecht led the Mastodons with 14 points on the afternoon. Playing in her final game as a Mastodon, De'Jour Young earned a double-double, the fourth of the season, finishing with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Young ends her career 14th on Purdue Fort Wayne's all-time scoring list with 1,197 points. Sh'Toya Sanders grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots. Jaelencia Williams added in eight points off the bench.
SDSU scored the first five points, and eight of the first 10, as the Mastodons were out-scored 28-9 in the first quarter. The 'Dons were unable to maintain momentum on the offensive end, shooting 33 percent in both the first and second quarters. Albrecht finished with nine points at the half on 4-of-8 shooting. The 'Dons couldn't slow down the Jackrabbits from beyond the arc. The Jacks made 7-of-14 from long range in the opening 20 minutes and finished with 11 three's in the game.
The Mastodons finished the game shooting 19-of-56 (33.9%) from the field, 5-of-21 (23.8%) beyond the arc, and 7-of-9 (77.8%) at the free throw line.
