Elzey and Mastodons Finish Second, Schroeder Ties Record For Lowest Round

INDIANAPOLIS - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team jumped five spots on the final day of the Butler Spring Invitational, as the Mastodons finished runner-up with a two-day score of 572. Individually, Callahan Elzey also earned a runner-up finish for the 'Dons. Zach Schroeder also tied the lowest round in program history as he carded a 66 for the day.
Hosted by Butler at the par-70, 6,551-yard Highland Golf Club, IUPUI won the team trophy with a 36-hole score of 1-over-par 561. Nick Bienz also of IUPUI won the individual medalist honors with a 3-under-par 137.
The Mastodons finished two shots better than third place Oakland and Butler. The team score of 275 for the day ranks one stroke off the program record. The team's 36-hole score of 572 is tied for the fourth lowest in school history.
Elzey carded the lowest round of his career, shooting a 3-under-par 67 on the final day, to tie for second place with a 139. Elzey's 36-hole score ranks tied for third all-time in program history. His 67 for the round is tied for fifth lowest for the Mastodons. Eric Brinker finished one shot back in a tie for fourth place, shooting a 2-under-par 68 for the final round and a 140 for the week, both of which rank in the top-10 in program history.
Schroeder tied the program's all-time lowest round, shooting a 4-under-par 66 to finish tied for 13th place with a two-day score of 143. Schroeder tied the mark earlier this season and is shared with Brinker and former Mastodon Bruno Carvalho. Parker Deakyne carded a 76 for the round and a 152 for the tournament to finish in 47th place. Zac Turi rounded out the scoring for the team with a 74 on the day and a 153 over two days to tie for 48th.
Clark Tiller led a quintet of Mastodons playing as individuals. Tiller shot a career-low 70 on the final day to finish tied for eighth place with a 142. Josh Keating tied for 17th, also shooting a career-low 68 to finish with a 145. Cody White carded a 74 on the day and a 148 for the tournament to finish tied for 30th. Luke Miller fired a 72 for the round to tie for 42nd place with a 151. Jake Kennedy ended his week with a 78 and a 158 to finish in 52nd place.
Purdue Fort Wayne takes a week off before returning to action for the Wright State Invitational April 14 & 15.
