FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Nine Purdue Fort Wayne teams (men's basketball, men's golf, men's soccer, men's volleyball, softball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer and women's volleyball) saw their multi-year APR (Academic Progress Rate) scores rise from the previous year or stay at a perfect 1,000 in the APR report released by the NCAA on Wednesday (May 8).
Eight teams (men's golf, men's soccer, men's volleyball, women's cross country, women's golf, softball, women's soccer and women's volleyball) recorded single-year APR scores of 1,000. The single-year score is based on the 2017-18 academic year.
APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, which provides a measure of each team's academic performance. Multi-year APR scores released on Wednesday are based on the averages from the single year scores of the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years. A perfect APR score is 1,000.
Men's golf, men's volleyball, women's golf and women's soccer received perfect 1,000 multi-year scores. They were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards last week for ranking among the nation's best in APR.
Men's basketball's multi-year score of 985 ranks as the best in the Summit League and second among NCAA Division I men's basketball programs in Indiana only to Notre Dame. Men's volleyball's 1,000 put them at the top of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and tied for best in the nation. The 1,000 women's soccer received was the only 1,000 among Summit League women's soccer programs. It was also one of only three perfect scores among women's soccer teams in Indiana. Women's volleyball's 995 tied them for second in the Summit League and fourth in the state. Women's golf and men's golf's perfect scores tied them for best in the league and state.
