FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons will kick off the regular season with a road match against future Horizon League foe Youngstown State.

Scouting the Mastodons (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Summit League)
The Mastodons faced off in two exhibition matches against Saint Francis (Ind.) and Wright State. The 'Dons won against Saint Francis (Ind.) 6-1 with Hannah Kroger scoring two schools. At Wright State, the Mastodons fell 4-2 with a goal from Gabbie Mann and Lauren Lawrence. Purdue Fort Wayne ended both matches with a shut out in corner kicks. Against Saint Francis (Ind.), the women's soccer team was 6-0 and against Wright State, they were 5-0.
Scouting the Penguins (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Horizon League)
Youngstown State welcomes Purdue Fort Wayne after playing two exhibition matches against Ohio University and Buffalo. Against Ohio University, the Penguins lost 6-1. Their lead scorer was freshman Addie Roman. A few days later. Youngstown State fell to Buffalo 2-0. The Penguins lead in saves 6-5 with sophomore Zeeyana Jivraj with four saves in the first half.
When We Last Met
The 'Dons and Penguins met in 2018. Kayla Wisniewski scored the only goal of the game unassisted in a breakaway at the 29th minute. Purdue Fort Wayne led in shots on goal 7-4 and tied in corner kicks 2-2.
Senior on the Rise
Hannah Kroger scored two of the six goals in the exhibition match (Aug. 13) against the Saint Francis Cougars. Kroger scored the first goal of the game within the first two minutes. Shortly after that, she assisted Kayla Wisniewski in the second goal of the game at 6:31.
Defensive-Minded 'Dons
The Mastodons held three of their opponents scoreless in the entire match last season. Those opponents were Saint Francis (Ind.), Youngstown State and Chicago State. For 2019, the Mastodons will have eight defensemen fighting for a spot on the back line.
Wisniewski in the Books
Kayla Wisniewski had a successful season in 2018. In just her first year as a Mastodon, Wisniewski made it into the record books for five separate categories. She is currently tied for seventh with three game-winning goals in a career and in a single-season. She is also tied for sixth with 1.00 points per game and fifth with eight goals. Wisniewski also ranks seventh overall with an average of 0.42 goals per game and fifth overall with 19 points earned in a single-season.
Party at the Pitch
The women's soccer team will host Valparaiso at 7 p.m. on September 13 at the Hefner Soccer Complex. The men's soccer team will face off against Belmont at 5 p.m. before the women's game. Starting at 4:30 p.m., there will be free food for students and food trucks for spectators and admission is free.
