
Mastodons out-shoot the Penguins, but fall 2-1

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – After a powerful 90 minutes of play, the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Youngstown State Penguins on Friday (August 23) night.
The 'Dons edged the Penguins in shots 23-13 and corner kicks 5-2.
At the 22nd minute, goalkeeper Lorah Pund jumped high and deflected a shot from Youngstown State forward Regan LaVigna. Pund's save kept the score 1-0 in favor of the Penguins.
Four minutes into the second half, junior Eliese LaCourt powered the ball into the goal after a corner kick by Tahra Brodbine. Kayla Wisniewski and Brodbine picked up assists on the goal. LaCourt scored the goal in her first game as a Mastodon and Brodbine recorded the assist in her first collegiate contest. It evened the score at one. Shortly after the Mastodons goal, the Penguins came back with an unassisted goal by Marcella Sizer.
Wisniewski, Hannah Kroger, Eliese LaCourt and Cesiley LaCourt all had two shots on goal apiece and Chloee Foor contributed one shot on goal. Wisniewski, Kroger, Foor and Cesiley LaCourt calculated three shots each to contribute to the shots total.
Purdue Fort Wayne remains on the road for a matchup on Sunday, August 25 against the Robert Morris Colonials at 1 p.m.
