PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - Thanks to a pair of 222's from Holly Anderson and Laura Caetano, Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf broke the 54-hole program record by a whopping 28 strokes on Tuesday (Sept. 10) at the Golfweek Program Championship. The team finished with a 912 at the True Blue Golf Club, besting the previous record of 940, which was set in 2018 at the Cardinal Classic.
As a team, the Mastodons finished in a tie for 10th at the two-day tournament, three spots ahead of future Horizon League rival UIC.
The 222's from Anderson and Caetano were only one shot shy of tying the program's 54-hole individual record of 221. The Mastodons had Emma Schroeder card a 235, and Kennedy Brooker right behind with a 236. Linnzie Richner rounded out the group with a 239.
Anderson used two birdies on the front and two birdies on the back to card an even 72. She birdied the par-four sixth, eighth and 17th, and the par-five 15th. Caetano had a 76 on the final day, using a birdie on the par-five fourth to reach a one-over 38 on the front. She birdied 12 and 16 for a 38 on the back. Anderson and Caetano tied for 18th overall.
Schroeder had a pair of birdies as well, knocking in a four on 15 and a three on 18. She finished with a 77 to total 235 for the weekend, which placed her tied for 54th. Kennedy Brooker birdied 13 en route to an 82 on her final day. The 236 she carded was good for a tie for 56th. Brooker's eagle during the first day of play was one of only three for the entire tournament. Linnzie Richner's 81 yielded a 239 for the tournament, which put her in a tie for 61st position overall.
High Point won as a team with a score of 872. Phu Khine from seventh place UNC Wilmington took home the medalist honors with a 209.
The Mastodons are back on the course on Monday (Sept. 16) at the Golden Grizzly Invitational in Rochester Hills, Mich. The invite is hosted by Oakland.
