Women's Golf Two Shots Back of Lead at Golden Grizzlies Invite

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Thanks to three Mastodons finishing in the top 10, Purdue Fort Wayne is just two shots back of the lead at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational through the first round. Purdue Fort Wayne shot a 306, behind host Oakland's 304 and Central Michigan's 305.
Holly Anderson led the way for the Mastodons with a 75 (T-3). Anderson finished her day with 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four fourth. She was five shots behind tournament-leader Kay Zubkus of Oakland.
Emma Schroeder followed one shot back of Anderson with a 76 (T-5). She had three birdies on the day, the first coming on her second hole on the par-five 13th. She picked up another on the par-three fifth and her last on the 11th.
Just one shot back was Linnzie Richner, who finished with a 77 for a tie for 10th place. She dropped a pair of birdies on the front nine, with a three on hole three and a two on hole five. She parred nine holes on the day.
Laura Caetano was one shot back of Richner with a 78. Her 16th-place opening round was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes one and two. Kennedy Brooker rounded out the Mastodons' day with an 86, finishing the first day in a tie for 34th place.
Sarah Lewis competed as an individual, carding an 81 on the day with a tie for 24th place.
The last round of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational will be played tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17) with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
