Purdue Fort Wayne Falls to Evansville in Four

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball dropped a non-league match on Friday night (Sept. 13) at the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. The Mastodons fell to host Evansville in four sets (26-24, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22).
The first set was one of runs, with two- and three-point bursts from both sides. There were five ties and two lead changes. The Mastodons held off a set point opportunity, but Evansville ultimately had a block and a kill to take the opening frame. UE used a 14-7 start in the second set to put it out of reach. The 'Dons closed the gap to four, but the Purple Aces took seven of the last nine points.
Evansville held a 17-13 edge in the third set, but the 'Dons took its first lead at 21-20 on a big block from Sandra Hoevels and Sydney Boerst. Katie Crowe and Elizabeth Fuerst finished the set with back-to-back kills.
The Mastodons had a 15-13 lead in the fourth, but the Purple Aces ran back a 5-1 run to go up for good.
Evansville's Melanie Feliciano led the floor with 29 kills with a .424 hitting clip. Crowe led the Mastodons with a double-double (14 kills and 10 digs). Boerst had 10 kills with a .333 hitting clip. Hoevels had a team-high five blocks.
The Mastodons are back in action on Saturday (Sept. 14) to continue play in the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. The 'Dons will play Eastern Illinois at 11 a.m. ET, and Middle Tennessee at 4:30 p.m. ET.
