Purdue Fort Wayne WVB Heads to Dunn Hospitality Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball is set to play in the Dunn Hospitality Tournament on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 13-14). The Mastodons will play host Evansville, Eastern Illinois and Middle Tennessee.

Scouting Evansville (2-2, 0-0 Missouri Valley)
Evansville is 2-2 so far this season, with wins coming over Jackson State and Tennessee State. The Purple Aces fell to Summit League foe Western Illinois in five sets. The offense is spread out for UE, with four different attackers all having 25 kills or more.
Scouting Eastern Illinois (0-6, 0-0 Ohio Valley)
Eastern Illinois is 0-6, dropping three matches in both the Panthers' home tournament and the Central Michigan Chippewa Invitational. The Panthers fell to Summit League schools South Dakota State in four and North Dakota State in five.
Scouting Middle Tennessee (0-6, 0-0 Conference USA)
Middle Tennessee is 0-6 on the year, dropping three in Saint Louis' Marcia E. Hamilton Classic and three in the Thunderbird Classic in Cedar City, Utah. A pair of left side attackers lead the Blue Raiders, as Urte Neimantaite and Dora Peonia have 69 and 63 kills, respectively.
Coming Up on 1,500
Purdue Fort Wayne's 1,500th program match will take place against Central Arkansas in the SIUE Tournament on September 21. The Mastodons have a .639 winning percentage over the course of the program's 42-year history.
No Mid-life Crucis Here!
Rachael Crucis has had at least 20 digs in two contests this season. She had 25 digs off the bench against Western Michigan in her first collegiate outing and 23 in the Mastodons' comeback against UC Riverside.
Comeback Baby!
After dropping the first two sets to UC Riverside 25-7, 25-23, Purdue Fort Wayne won the last three sets 25-23, 29-27, 16-14. Elizabeth Fuerst had 13 kills to lead the team, followed by Madelyn Wurster and Katie Crowe who each had 12. Sydney Boerst had seven blocks to lead the Mastodon defense.
All Them Double-Doubles
Madison Gates has five double-doubles so far this season, including three consecutive double-doubles through the first three matches of the season. These are the first five double-doubles of her career.
Welcoming the Newcomers
Purdue Fort Wayne have five newcomers earn time on the court in the first three weeks of play: Rachael Crucis, Alexandra Traciak, Maddi Nell, Sidney Schiller and Kendyll Gebert all played in the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational in the opening weekend.
On the Double... Double!
Katie Crowe has 21 double-doubles in three years with the Mastodons, 11 of which came in 2018. Of the 21, 15 of them came on Arnie Ball Court. Crowe has two double-double so far this season.
Hittin' High
Sydney Boerst currently ranks third in program history in career hitting percentage at .315. She is the leader in the rally scoring era (2001-present), and only trails Andi Reichart (.362) and Rachel Brown (.318).
Between a Block and a Hard Place
Sydney Boerst holds a 0.91 blocks per set average for her career, which ranks ninth in program history. Eighth on the list is Dottie Porch, who averaged 0.92 blocks per set from 1994-97.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne dropped a four-set match to IUPUI on Tuesday (Sept. 10). Katie Crowe had a season high 21 kills.
Next Time Up
Purdue Fort Wayne is set for a midweek matchup with Eastern Michigan on Tuesday (Sept. 17). The 'Dons will head to the Cougar Classic, where they will play Presbyterian, Central Arkansas and the host SIUE.
