'Dons Fall to Eastern Michigan in Four Sets

YPSYLANTI, Mich. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball fell to Eastern Michigan in four sets (18-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-15) on Tuesday (Sept. 17).
In the opening frame, the Mastodons used a five-point run to go up 17-10 behind Maddi Nell's serve. She picked up an ace in this stretch. The rest of the set was back and forth, but the 'Dons held the lead until they switched sides at 25-18.
Eastern Michigan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and buoyed that lead with a four-point run to go up 15-9. After a small Mastodon push, the Eagles rattled off a 7-1 run that put the set out of reach. EMU used stringent defense in the third and fourth sets to take the match, holding the Mastodons to negative hitting in the third.
Katie Crowe led the 'Dons with nine kills, followed by Sandra Hoevels' seven. Sydney Boerst had six kills and six blocks.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 3-8, while Eastern Michigan improves to 4-5. The Mastodons are back in action on Friday at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois with a match against Presbyterian at 4 p.m.
