Mastodons Improve in Second Round of Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio - After 36 holes of play at the Dayton Flyer Invitational, the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team sits in eighth of the 10-team field with a score of 312-296-608.
Purdue Fort Wayne's second round moved the Mastodons up two spots. Kasey Lilly's even 71 in the afternoon paced the Mastodons in their move up the standings. Lilly had a morning round of 77, finishing with 148 for 18th. He birdied the second hole in his first go-around. He parred 12 of the his first 14 holes. In round two, he birdied holes one, seven and eight to shoot 2-under on the front. He had eight pars on the back to go with five on the front.
Tyler Green also had an opening round of 77. He carded a 75 in round two to total 152 to tie for 41st. He got a birdie on the 530-yard par-5 sixth hole in his first time through the course, then birdied 11 and 13 in round two.
After an opening round of 81, Brett Seward rebounded with a 73 for 154. He had nine pars in the first round and 10 in the second. In the afternoon, he birdied five, 10 and 18, the first two of which were par-5s.
With nothing worse than a bogey all day, Burke Pitz shot 79-77-156 to tie for 51st. He birdied the 548-yard par-5 10th in both of his rounds.
Reece Compton had his first round of 79 taken for the team score. He finished with a 157 after a second round of 78. He turned in 22 pars, 11 in each round. Hunter Mefford played as an individual, turning in 77-81-158 for 56th place.
The 'Dons are seven shots back of Ohio, which is in seventh place. Wright State leads the tournament at 571. Dayton's Blake Soloman is leading the race for medalist honors with 140 in two rounds.
The third and final round of the Dayton Flyer Invitational will have a shotgun start on Tuesday morning (Oct. 19).
