'Dons Tie 1-1 Against Detroit Mercy

DETROIT – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team finished Saturday's game in a 1-1 draw against Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Oct. 23.
With the tie, the Mastodons record is 5-6-6 overall and 4-4-2 in the Horizon League with 14 points. The 'Dons are in fifth place in the Horizon League, three points behind Green Bay (17 points), who defeated Northern Kentucky 1-0 on Saturday.
The top six teams earn a bid into the Horizon League tournament. Seeds one and two get a bye and seeds three and four will host an on campus quarterfinals game on Oct. 31.
After a scoreless first half, the Titans got on the board with in the 53rd minute with a goal from Sarah Soraghan with an assist from Erica Toupin.
For the second game in a row, the 'Dons would not go down without a fight, and drew a foul inside the goalkeeper's box. Bella Reitano would score a penalty kick goal moments later to tie the game. For Bella, it was her fourth goal of the season.
The 'Dons would get shots in overtime from Morgan Reitano and Lizzie Haub, but both were saved by Detroit Mercy's Jazmine Scott.
The 'Dons out-shot the Titans 16-15 and a 5-4 shots on goal advantage. Morgan Reitano led the 'Dons with five shots, Kelsey Gallagher would add four. Samantha Castaneda would start in goal and played all 110 minutes. She racked up three saves and allowed one goal.
The Mastodons will conclude the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 27 (7 p.m.) with a Horizon League game against Cleveland State at the Hefner Soccer Complex. With a win or tie, the 'Dons would clinch a spot in the Horizon League tournament.
