LAKEWOOD, Ohio - Thanks to three-straight birdies on his final three holes, Kasey Lilly of the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team won the Tom Tontimonia Invitational with a 69-68-137 at the Lakewood Country Club on Tuesday (Oct. 5).
Lilly's tournament win is the first for the program since Zach Schroeder won the Wright State Invitational in April of 2019.
The junior opened his round with two birdies in his first four holes. After a bogey on hole five, he had eight straight holes of par or better, with a birdie on 10. After two bogeys on 14 and 15, Lilly closed his round with three straight birdies, capped off by sinking a 12-foot putt on 18. After his round was over, Oakland's Anthony Comito was still on the course, sitting even with Lilly with four holes to play. Comito bogeyed 16 and parred 17 and 18, giving way to Lilly's first tournament win. Lilly had 10 birdies this week, which tied for the most in the field. In his junior season, Lilly has amassed a 323-17 record, a win percentage of .950.
