Men's Track & Field Starts Season Strong at Mastodon Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's track & field team opened the 2021-22 indoor season with a strong team performance at the Mastodon Opener at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 4.
First place finishers for the Mastodons included Asher Walden in the weight throw (16.35 meters), freshman Zyler Johnson in the shot put (14.33 meters) and the 4 by 400 meter team (3:28.50).
The 'Dons had two second place finishes, which included Aaron Martin in the shot put (13.26 meters), and a second 4 by 400 team (3:34.80).
Austin Dove (1.95 meters) and Cain Hohne (1.90 meters) placed third and fourth in the high jump. Weston Miser (2:00.31), Drake Kropf (2:00.95) and Cory Waldron (2:02.40) took third, fourth and fifth in the 800 meter run. Other 'Dons who earned a third place finish included: Luke Beehler (12.74 meters) in the triple jump, Garrett Anglemeyer (13.21 meters) in the shot put and Zyler Johnson (14.95 meters) in the weight throw.
Dona Fagnon (7.13 seconds) placed fourth in the 60 meter dash, as did Joe Cartwright (23.02 seconds) in the 200 meter dash.
Kehinde Oladapo (15:01.65) and Nicholas Mills (15:02.66) finished the 5,000 meter run in fourth and fifth place. As did Brejion Peters (3.60 meters), and Jeffrey Ruppert (3.60 meters) in the pole vault.
The 'Dons will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 10 to compete in the Strive For Greatness Invitational at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind.
