Adam Chedi Represents Horizon League at Student-Athlete Leadership Forum

INDIANAPOLIS – Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer's Adam Chedi was one of two Horizon League student-athletes selected to participate at the 2021 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum Nov. 18-21, 2021 in Houston, Texas.
The NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum was a four-day experience comprised of a varied range of student-athletes, coaches, faculty and administrators from all three NCAA divisions that were given the opportunity to learn about themselves and grow their leadership skills.
"My attendance at the NCAA Leadership Forum will always sit in the back of my head moving forward," said Chedi after returning from the forum. "Several things made this week(end) impactful and memorable. Foremost, interacting with other leaders from all over the country and across the world truly opened my eyes to individual differences. In my color team (go blue team!), we spent a lot of time talking about our ways of leading, our strengths, and our weaknesses. What made it so special was the safe space that was created, which allowed for vulnerability and reflection about things one may not be comfortable sharing with others. I realized over the weekend that we were all like-minded people but yet we were all different in our ways."
Spencer Bonahoom, Purdue Fort Wayne's Assistant Athletic Director for the Mastodon Academic Performance Center, attended the Student-Athlete Leadership Forum as one of the NCAA's Lead Facilitators and as a presenter for the Student-Athlete Mental Health breakout session. Bonahoom got involved with SALF a few years ago as a facilitator after attending the NCAA Effective Facilitation Workshop for administrators & coaches.
"As an administrator serving as a facilitator, this experience is incredibly powerful. It provides the opportunity to learn top-level facilitation skills and leadership development practices that can be taken back to campus," said Bonahoom after reflecting on the importance of attending the event as an administrator. "More importantly, it gives you the chance to connect with and support the development of incredible student-athletes from across the country. I am a huge supporter of the SALF for all and would encourage any administrators to get involved as a facilitator."
Each Horizon League institution was given the opportunity to nominate at least two (one female, one male) and up to four (two females, two males) student-athletes from their institution to represent the conference at the Leadership Forum.
Chedi and Northern Kentucky softball student-athlete Lauryn Hicks were selected to represent the League from the pool of nominees. Both student-athletes serve on the League's #OneHL group.
"We are proud to have had Adam and Lauryn be the Horizon League representatives at the 2021 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum," League Commissioner Julie Roe Lach said. "The League is uncompromising in the development of our student-athletes and we are excited to see how they will enact ideas and continue to lead initiatives with the Horizon League SAAC and #OneHL groups, as well as their own campuses."
