'Dons Drop Opener to League Favorite Milwaukee 1-0

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Despite three shots in the 88th minute, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell to Horizon League favorite Milwaukee 1-0 at the MOSH Performance Center on Wednesday (Feb. 10).
Natalie Auble scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers at 9:02 and was assisted by Taylor Tabbert and Gaby Schwartz. Lorah Pund put a stop to the Panthers offense for the remainder of the match with seven saves. The 'Dons held the Panthers to only eight shots on goal, a week after the Panthers recorded 17 against Robert Morris.
The Mastodons finished with six shots in the contest. Freshman Rylee Vruggink and senior Eliese LaCourt led the way for the 'Dons with two shots and Kelsey Gallagher added one. Kailyn Wade had the Mastodons' only shot on goal but was it was saved by Milwaukee goalkeeper Elaina LaMacchia in the 15th minute.
The Mastodons had three shots in the 88th minute as they attempted to tie the match. LaCourt had two of the attempts and Vruggink included another shot, but all three couldn't find the net.
Seven 'Dons played in their first match as a Mastodon on Wednesday.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to a record of 0-1-0, 0-1-0 Horizon League and while Milwaukee improves their record to 2-0-0, 2-0-0 Horizon League.
The 'Dons will head back to Wisconsin on Wednesday (Feb. 17) to take on the Green Bay Phoenix. The match will begin at 2 p.m. ET and be at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
