Men's Volleyball Falls to I-69 Rival Ball State 3-0

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team dropped Saturday's (Feb. 6) rematch against No. 15 Ball State at Worthen Arena 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-22).
Set One
The Cardinals took the lead early in set one with a six-point scoring run with a block by Blake Reardon and Felix Egharevba, making the score 10-6 forcing a Purdue Fort Wayne timeout. Bryce Walker answered with a kill out of the timeout. The Mastodons were able to go on a four-point run with kills by Pelegrin Vargas and Jon Diedrich, bringing the score to be 15-14. After the 'Dons closed the gap to one at 18-17, Ball State finished the set on a 7-4 stretch.
Set Two
It was all Ball State in set two, beginning with a 13-3 run for the Cardinals. Jon Diedrich and Mitch Geiger got two of the first three Mastodon points on kills. BSU claimed the set two 25-14. Bryce Walker earned two blocks and Vicente Ibarra came off the bench and had three kills.
Set Three
Jon Diedrich, Richie Diedrich and Vargas had three kills in a row to tie the score at 13. Sean Califf snuck the ball past the Cardinals block with a dump to make the score 18-15. Ibarra added four kills, but Ball State used a 5-1 stretch to build a cushion, then took four of the last five.
