Lilly Leads Mastodons on Day One of Butler Spring Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS - Kasey Lilly led the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team on the first day (Monday, March 29) of the Butler Spring Invitational with a 76-72-148.
The Highland Golf and Country Club played at 6,551 yards, par 70. As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne is in ninth place with a 609, ahead of one of the two Horizon League schools in the field: Green Bay (614).
Lilly had 12 pars and nothing worse than a bogey on his card in round one. He birdied hole 14 on his second time around, finishing the day in a tie for 24th place.
In the first round, Eric Brinker dropped a birdie three on hole six, which was a 354-yard par-4. He also had nine pars for a 78. Brinker birdied hole nine in round two, pairing with 11 pars to finish in 41st place with a 78-75-153.
Parker Deakyne had a birdie on hole 15 in round one to go with 10 pars. He had nine pars in round two, concluding his day with a 76-78-154 for 48th. The younger Deakyne, Jacob had a 36 on the front nine in round one thanks to six pars and a birdie on hole three, a 563-yard par-5. He finished the round with a 79, then followed it up with a 77 for a 156, which put him in the 54th position.
Hunter Mefford saw competed in his first tournament as a collegian, in which he had 11 pars in round one for a 77. Mefford birdied hole 12, a 553-yard par-5, in his second round. He shot an 80 in round two for a 157, which was good enough for 58th.
Burke Pitz (T11th), Luke Miller (T17th), Jadden Ousley (T30th) and Reece Compton (T59th) competed as individuals. Pitz shot 76-69-145, Miller shot 72-74-146, Ousley carded a 74-77-151 in his first collegiate action, and Reece Compton brought in a 77-81-158.
Indian Hills CC is in the lead through day one as a team with 285-284-569. Cameron Luczka of Indiana Wesleyan is the individual leader through 36 holes with a 70-68-138.
The Mastodons will compete in the third and final round of the Butler Spring Invitational tomorrow (March 30) with a 9 a.m. shotgun.
