Six 'Dons Post Career-Bests at Butler Spring Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS - Six Purdue Fort Wayne men's golfers set new personal bests at the Butler Spring Invitational on Tuesday (March 30). Parker Deakyne, Hunter Mefford, Burke Pitz, Luke Miller, Jadden Ousley and Reece Compton all set new 54-hole career-lows.
Deakyne had the best round of the 'Dons on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under 69 for a 76-78-69-223. He had two birdies and no bogeys on the front nine, then just one bogey on the back. His two birdies and 15 pars set him up to tie for 25th overall. His 223 beat his previous best by three shots.
Pitz played as an individual and shot 72-69-75-220 to tie for 15th, the second-best among those playing as individuals. He beat his previous best by two strokes. Miller also played as an individual, shooting 72-74-76-222 for his best 54-hole tournament. His previous best was 232.
Mefford (T46th), Ousley (T51) and Compton (T63) all competed in their first 54-hole tournament this week. Mefford played for the team, shooting 77-80-73-230 with three birdies and nine pars. Ousley and Compton played as individuals, shooting 74-77-82-233 and 77-81-79-237, respectively.
Kasey Lilly tied with Deakyne for 25th position, carding a 76-72-75-223, with a birdie and 11 pars in his final round. Eric Brinker was tied for 36th after 78-75-74-227 week. His final round featured birdies on nine and 12 and 10 pars. Jacob Deakyne was the last 'Don competing for the team score. He finished in a tie for 61st with a birdie and eight pars.
As a team, the 'Dons finished eighth with a 900. They beat DePauw, Chicago State and Horizon League foe Green Bay, who shot 924. Indian Hills CC won the invitational with a team score of 854. Antoine Sale was the best individual, carding a 209.
Purdue Fort Wayne is back in action on Monday, April 12 when they travel to Kettering, Ohio to play in the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR South.
