'Dons and Lilly Occupy Sixth Through 36 at Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate

KETTERING, Ohio - Through 36 holes at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate, the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team sits in sixth place, led by Kasey Lilly, who is in sixth as an individual.
The Mastodons played at the NCR Country Club North Course on Monday (April 12), which played at 6,720 yards. The 'Dons, who shot 288-282-570, finished day one ahead of Horizon League foes Cleveland State (575), Youngstown State (579) and Northern Kentucky (596). The 'Dons were one shot behind IUPUI and eight behind Wright State, who profiled as the best program in the Horizon League in 2019-20 based on Golfstat rankings.
Lilly was the best Mastodon in the field, shooting a 2-under 71-67-168. In round one, Lilly had a bogey-free front nine with two birdies on the back for a 1-over 71. In his second round, the sophomore had two eagles and a birdie on the front nine, then seven pars and a birdie on the back. He was 3-under on the front and even after the turn. His eagles came on holes two and seven, the latter of which was a 341-yard par-4.
In 21st, Burke Pitz shot a 71-72-143. Pitz carded a 1-under front nine in his first round and finished with 13 pars in round one. In his second, he had three birdies on the front and one on the back, shooting even and 2-over on the front and back, respectively.
Jacob Deakyne (74-71-145) beat out his older brother Parker Deakyne (72-74-146) by one shot, as Jacob sits in a tie for 32nd and Parker is in a tie with teammate Luke Miller for 37th. Jacob had 15 pars in his opening round and followed it up with six birdies in his second. He birdied three-out-of-four in a row on the front nine, then sandwiched a bogey with two birdies on the back. Parker had a birdie on hole 13 in round one and holes two and seven in round two. He finished with 25 pars on the day.
Miller's 74-72-146 came by way of two birdies in round one and three in the second. In his first, he birdied holes one and 12, then holes seven, 12 and 17.
The Mastodons will have their final 18 holes of the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
