Olafsdottir, Brooker and Caetano Lead Mastodons at #HLGolf Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf program's quest for a Horizon League championship began on Sunday (April 25) at the Ackerman-Allen Course at Purdue University.
Anna Olafsdottir, Kennedy Brooker and Laura Caetano all shot 80s to start off the tournament which put them at 27th.
Olafsdottir's 80 came with two birdies on the back nine sinking putts on 13 and 16. On 16, she drilled a mid-range approach shot to within three feet for the four. Hr birdie on the 13th was just a tee shot and a putt on the par-3. The freshman had seven pars in her opening round.
Caetano had two birdies on the back as well, coming on 14 and 16. Both were par-5s, and her birdie on 16 came by draining a lengthy putt. She had six pars on the front and four on the back.
Brooker, who entered as the No. 5, also found success on No. 14, which was her only birdie of the day. The 441-yard par-5 saw her drop her fourth shot. She finished her round with nine pars.
Rounding out the team score, Holly Anderson shot an 83 to tie for 36th. She had 12 pars in the round. Emma Schroeder was one shot back of Anderson, turning in an 84. She birdied 16 after sending her eagle putt to just a couple feet for the tap-in. Schroeder had nine pars.
As a team, the 'Dons shot 323. Youngstown State is leading the pack at 296, one shot ahead of Green Bay. Katlyn Shutt of YSU shot an opening round of 67, including a bogey-free front nine and five straight birdies on the back.
The Mastodons will take the tee on Monday, April 26 for the second round of the championship at 8:30.
