Kasey Lilly Just Four Shots Back With 18 to Play at #HLGolf Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - With 18 holes left to play in the Horizon League Championship, Purdue Fort Wayne's Kasey Lilly moved into a tie for fourth on Monday (April 26) with a second round of 71 (-1). He is four shots out of the lead with a chance to vie for an individual championship tomorrow.
As a team, the Mastodons are in fourth, shooting 298 on Monday for 602 through 36 holes. The 'Dons are just one back of Cleveland State. Oakland leads the pack with a 582 and Golden Grizzly Thomas Giroux is the individual leader at 140.
Lilly's round of 71 featured four birdies and 11 pars to bring him to a 144 for the week. The sophomore birdied three and four consecutively, then turned in a four on 10 for birdie after making the turn. He finished his round with seven straight holes of par or better, with a birdie coming on 15. Lilly is 4-under on par-5s this week.
Luke Miller also joins Lilly in the top 10, shooting a 77 to move his two-day total to 149. Miller also birdied 10 after making the turn. He had four straight pars, with 11 overall.
After birdieing his first hole, Burke Pitz shot a 78 to move into a tie for 25th. With a two-day total of 154, Pitz had two birdies in his second round. After the first, he dropped in a three on hole eight. He had eight pars in addition to his two birdies.
With a second round of 72, Parker Deakyne vaulted 15 spots from yesterday, now tied for 33rd. He had three birdies and 12 pars, shooting 13 better than his first round. He spent a total of one hole over par in his round. Deakyne birdied the tough par-5 sixth by striping two shots down the fairway and sticking the green in regulation while overcoming a hard wind whipping rightward into the hazard. He followed it up with a birdie on eight, draining a mid-range putt for three. On the back, he had eight straight holes of par or better, with a birdie on 14. The only bogey he had on the back nine came on the 18th.
Jacob Deakyne shot an 85 to move to 168 for the week. He is in 48th. He had a birdie on the par-5 sixth after scrambling from a tough tee shot that sailed left. He also had five pars in his round.
The 'Dons will tee off in the final round of the Horizon League Championship on Tuesday, April 27 at 9 a.m.
