Mikalsen Scores on Senior Day in 2-1 Setback to Wright State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Mathias Mikalsen was honored prior to the 2021 finale on Monday (April 5) for the Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team. The Mastodons fell to the Wright State Raiders 2-1 at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
The 'Dons and Raiders played a scoreless first half with Wright State holding a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Wright State got on the board in the 51st minute on a header by Alex Hummel, assisted by Ids Hannema. In the 57th minute, Hannema assisted on another goal, this time Zion Beaton scored the tally.
The 'Dons did cut the lead in half, however. Purdue Fort Wayne earned a penalty kick in the 90th minute and Mikalsen took it. He buried the shot for his third goal of the season and finished his final minute of collegiate soccer with a goal.
Alejandro Lopez had two shots on goal to lead the 'Dons.
The Mastodons finish the season 3-6 (3-6 Horizon League). Wright State improves to 5-3-1 (5-3-1 Horizon).
