Mastodon Men’s Soccer Introduces 2021 Additions

FORT WAYNE Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer program will welcome seven new Mastodons this fall.
"We are adding a lot of talent in the 2021 recruiting class but are more excited about the character that we are bringing in," Mastodon head coach Stephen Gorton said. "There is a good mix of local, out of state, transfers and international players. As a program, the blue print is to continue building on the foundation that's already in place and not stop until it's built. We believe this class will keep us moving in the right direction"
Ayrton Redmore (Melbourne, Australia/Heathdale Christian/LSU Shreveport)
Redmore (6-4, D) played in 37 matches with 33 starts at LSU Shreveport over two years. Last season, he was an all-league first team performer with two goals and five assists. In 2019 he scored twice and had one assist. Prior to LSU Shreveport, he played two seasons at NCAA Division II Tusculum with 13 games played. In 2018 he helped Tusculum to a league title and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He comes to Purdue Fort Wayne with one season of eligibility.
Jordan Pappas (Holland Landing, Ontario/St. Maximilian Kolbe)
Pappas (5-9, MF) recorded eight goals and five assists in 10 games at St. Maximilian Kolbe. He was the team captain and was voted the player of the year. He owns seven years of experience with Vaughan Soccer Club.
Sanad Yahya (Melvindale, Mich./Edsel Ford/Marshall)
Yahya (5-6, MF) spent the last two seasons at Marshall University. He attended Melvindale High School and spent his final two years at Edsel Ford High School. Yahya was part of a regional championship during his freshman season and won the state cup championship in 2016. He played on the Yemen U20 National Team. His Vardar Academy team was ranked in the top 25 in the nation.
Josh Filiputti (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan)
Filiputti (6-0, MF/F) was a two-time Dream Team member and a finalist for Mr. Soccer Michigan. He was also named first team all-state. He totaled 63 goals and 47 assists in his career. He played club for Kalamazoo Kingdom.
Chad Harrison (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan)
Harrison (5-9, D) was a three-time all-district and all-conference selection. In 2019 he was named all-state. He also played for Kalamazoo Kingdom. In 2019, his team was a state cup finalist. In 2018 his team was the state cup champion and a finalist in the National League Regional.
Seth Mahlmeister (Lima, Ohio/Lima Catholic Central)
Mahlmeister (6-2, F) is spending his summer playing for Fort Wayne FC. He brings experience with Fort Wayne United and Columbus Crew Academy. He was the leading goal scorer for seven straight seasons, 2013-19, for Fort Wayne United Academy. In 2019 he scored 32 goals for Fort Wayne United Academy. Mahlmeister joined Columbus Crew Academy in 2020. He scored 42 goals in two seasons of high school soccer before focusing on club.
Alex Popa (Rochester, Mich./Rochester/Rochester)
Popa (5-10, F) played his first season at Rochester College in 2020-21. He started 11 games with four goals and three assists for the NAIA member Warriors. Popa was named to the All-Newcomer Team for the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference. Popa didn't play high school soccer, instead playing for Vardar Academy where his team ranked as high as No. 11 in the nation. From August 2019 - March 2020 he played in Valencia, Spain at the highest youth level in the nation for C.F. Valencia affiliate UD Alboraya. He has earned multiple invites to U.S. Training Centers & Youth National Team Camps. In 2015 he was invited by A.C. Milan for a two-week trial in Milano, Italy.
"It's an exciting time in our athletic department and the city of Fort Wayne," Gorton continued. "We look forward to this group experiencing that excitement."
These latest additions join Michael Teller and Logan Lee as 2021 recruits for the Mastodons. Teller and Lee joined in January and made an immediate impact on the shortened spring season. Teller played in seven games with five starts. Lee had four goals and two assists in nine games while picking up a Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week honor.
