Mastodons Top IU Indy 2-1 in League Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team opened Horizon League play with a 2-1 win over IU Indy on Saturday (Sept. 12).
Purdue Fort Wayne took control of the match early, with three Mastodons firing off shots in the opening six minutes and forcing the IU Indy goalkeeper to make a pair of saves.
Brandon Razo scored his fourth consecutive goal in the 14th minute to break the scoreless tie. Christian Agyekum picked up his second assist of the season on Razo's goal.
After IU Indy tied the match at 1-1, Jonny Hernandez found Daven Arias, who fired a shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season to put the 'Dons back in front at halftime.
The Mastodons held the Jaguars to just one shot in the second half. Purdue Fort Wayne finished the match with a 22-3 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. The Mastodons also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks after earning six in the first half.
Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in Horizon League play. IU Indy falls to 3-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league action.
The Mastodons host Wright State for their first home Horizon League match of the season on Saturday (Sept. 19).
