FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf head coach Billy King announced his signing class for the 2021-22 season: Corey Ryan (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Bishop Dwenger / Butler University), Brett Seward (Aurora, Illinois / Aurora Christian / Valparaiso University) and Tyler Green (Columbia City, Indiana / Columbia City / Purdue University / Ball State University).
"What a blessing to add these three to our 2021 class," King said. "They bring a wealth of talent, work ethic and passion to get better to our team."
Corey Ryan is a Fort Wayne native that played one season at Butler after graduating from Bishop Dwenger. While in high school, Ryan was a two-time All-Summit Athletic Conference selection after leading his team to back-to-back sectional championships in 2018 and 2019. He also led the Saints to two regional championships in 2017 and 2019 and three Summit Athletic Conference championships. Ryan was the low junior in the Fort Wayne City Tournament in 2019 and won the Bridgewater Invitational with a 72 in 2019. In addition to his time on the golf course, he was also a football player for two years, a member of the Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honor Society.
"A Bishop Dwenger grad with a huge upside," King said. "I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Corey. His first true year playing college golf. I truly believe he's ready and up to the challenge."
Brett Seward is joining the Mastodons as a graduate transfer from Valparaiso University. He was nominated for Newcomer of the Year and selected as the team MVP in 2017. He tied for fourth at the Titan Motown Collegiate in 2017 and second at the Dayton Flyer Invitational in 2020. At Aurora Christian, Seward set the all-time low scoring average and the all-time low city score with a 66. He was an All-NAAC selection four times and was the individual champion of the conference twice. He was also a member of the band, curch and school worship band, and the west suburban symphony. Seward earned high honors, was an eagle ambassador and a Dunham scholar.
"A seasoned Division I player with really good results over the last 4 years," King said. "His experience and leadership will be off the charts good for our young team. Just an awesome young man."
Tyler Green comes to Purdue Fort Wayne after spending the last four seasons at Ball State. He spent one semester at Purdue prior to his time as a Cardinal. Green played in 13 rounds in his final season in Muncie, which saw him place in the top 10 three times. He placed ninth at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational, fifth at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate and third at the MAC Championships. His season average as a senior was 75.85. His best outing by score came at the Boilermaker Individual, where he shot a 3-under 213. In Green's time at Columbia City, he was a three-time All-Conference selection, two-time state finalist and All-State selection as a junior. He led him team to the state finals in 2015-16.
"A somewhat local player out of Columbia City, Tyler's success and experience will be a huge added benefit for our program," King said. "A former top player in the MAC with a wealth of knowledge."
Ryan, Seward and Green will join previously signed Jaydan Morgan, Jarred Bowser and Nick Holder for the 2021-22 season.
