Women's Soccer Opens Regular Season At Home Against Toledo

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team opens its 2021 regular season with a home match against Toledo on Thursday, Aug. 19 (7 p.m.) at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

Scouting The Mastodons
The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team is coming off two exhibition wins, a 2-1 win against Indiana State, and a 6-0 win against Goshen College. The last time the Mastodons scored six goals in an exhibition match was in 2018 against St. Francis (Ind).
Leading the way on offense for the 'Dons was the sister duo of Morgan and Bella Reitano. The Fenton, Mich. natives combined for three goals and one assist in the two exhibition games. Other key contributors for the 'Dons were Kayla Shebar and Kelsey Gallagher, who scored two goals each in the two exhibition games. In 180 minutes of play, goalkeepers Belle Plautz, Melina Kozachik and Samantha Castaneda combined for nine straight saves after allowing an early first half goal against Indiana State.
The last time the 'Dons opened the season at home against a MAC team was against Ball State in 2018. The 'Dons fell to the Cardinals 2-1.
Assistant coach Jamie Peters was a member of the Rockets women's soccer team from 2016-2018. She played in 33 games, including an NCAA Tournament match in 2017.
Scouting The Rockets
The Rockets are coming off a 1-5-1 season with its lone win coming against Northern Illinois by a score of 2-0. The leading goal scorers for the Rockets were junior forwards Stephany Currie and Brooke Stonehouse with two goals each.
In 2019, the Rockets finished the season with a 7-12 record. Currie led the team in goals (6), points (15), and shots (33), tied for first in shots on goal (18), tied for second in assists (3), and was named to the All-Freshman team in the MAC. Stonehouse was tied for third on the team in assists (2) and was tied for fourth on the team in goals (2).
Since taking over as head coach of the program in 2015, TJ Buchholtz owns a 14-4-2 record against Horizon League teams, which includes a 3-2 record against Horizon League teams in 2019.
