Mids Take Friday Match With Mastodon Women's Volleyball

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped its opening match of the Liberty Invitational on Friday (Sept. 10) to Navy 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-18).
In the opening set, the Mastodons and Mids had eight ties and five lead changes. The 'Dons led as late as 17-16 after a kill from Sidney Schiller, but Navy had a 9-2 finish to the set. Katie Crowe had five kills on 10 attempts in the first set.
After Navy took a 6-4 lead in the second, the Mastodons went on a 9-2 run. Ramei Jackson capped off the stretch with a block and a kill. The Mids responded with a 11-1 run to retake the lead that would hold to the end of the set.
Navy never trailed in the final set. The 'Dons forced a tie score at 10-apiece after Madison Gates picked up a kill and forced a miscue from the Mids. Navy took a 6-0 run to a 16-10 lead. Purdue Fort Wayne had a 5-1 run later in the set that saw three kills from Schiller and blocks from Maggie Castleman and Jackson, but Navy took four of the last five points of the set.
Rachael Crucis had 10 digs to lead the match. Navy's Jamie Llewellyn had 12 kills on 20 swings for a .500 hitting clip.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 1-6, while Navy improves to 4-3. The Mastodons are back in action on Saturday morning (Sept. 11) against Liberty at 10 a.m.
