Mastodons Fall To Jaguars 1-0

INDIANAPOLIS. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team dropped its first Horizon League match of the season to IUPUI by a score of 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 19 at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
The Mastodons record drops to 2-3-4 (1-1 Horizon League) on the season, IUPUI's record improves to 2-6-1 (1-1 Horizon League).
The Jaguars got off to a quick start, scoring the game's only goal in the fourth minute. Elizabeth Bueckers was credited with the goal, and the assist was credited to Maya Lacognato. The goal was Bueckers sixth of the season. In the second half, the Mastodons would have chances to tie the game. Gigi Ricciardi had a shot in the game's 49th minute with an open net, but an IUPUI defender would quickly block the shot from going into the net. In the 89th minute, Kelsey Gallagher would put up a shot from 30 yards out, but the shot was saved by IUPUI's goalkeeper Ashton Kudlo towards the low center of the net.
In the match, the Jaguars had a 15-9 shot advantage and a 6-5 shots on goal advantage. Gallagher would lead the 'Dons in shots with two, both shots would be on goal. In net for the 'Dons was Samantha Castaneda. She saved five shots and allowed one goal on the day.
The Mastodons will be back in action on Thursday, Sept 23 (2 p.m.) against Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa. Robert Morris is 4-5-1 overall (0-1-1 Horizon League). The Colonials tied their first Horizon League game of the season to Green Bay by a score of 1-1 on Thursday, Sept. 16 and lost to Milwaukee by a score of 2-0 on Sunday, Sept. 19.
