The 'Dons Will Discover Kalamazoo This Weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team will head north to the Discover Kalamazoo Classic this weekend. Western Michigan's tournament will feature the Mastodons, Southeast Missouri, Indiana, and the host Broncos.

Know Your Foes
• Southeast Missouri is 3-0 on the young season, with wins over DePaul, Bradley and Central Michigan. Laney Malloy and Zoey Beasley are the two primary attackers for the Redhawks, both averaging above 3.50 kills per set through three matches. Claire Ochs is dishing out 11.18 assists per set, while Tara Beilsmith is pacing the back line with an average of 7.64 digs per set.
• Indiana is also 3-0 coming into the Discover Kalamazoo Classic, coming off 3-0 wins over UIC and Butler and a five-setter over Bowling Green. Brenna Edwards is leading the Hoosiers with 3.09 kills per set. IU is leading the Big Ten in blocks thanks to Kari Zumach, Savannah Kjolhede and Kaley Rammelsburg, who are all averaging more than one block per set.
• Western Michigan is 2-1 after its opening weekend, but its only loss came to Big Ten foe Michigan State. The Broncos took down Wright State and Canisius to finish off their week. Maggie King is the Broncos' leader with 4.50 points per set. She had 17 kills in WMU's opener against Michigan State.
Saturday Night Five
The Mastodons have already played two five-set matches this season (SIUE and Kent State). This is more than the entirety of the spring 2021 season.
Make It A Double
Katie Crowe has three double-doubles in three matches this season. She had one against SIUE (17k, 10d), Evansville (12k, 11d) and Kent State (13k, 12d). She now has 48 double-doubles in her career in her five seasons.
Best Offense Continued
After hitting a rally scoring era program-best .235 last season, the Mastodons are hitting .227 this year, which leads the Horizon League in the early going of the 2021 season.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne dropped three matches in the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational last week, falling to SIUE 3-2, Evansville 3-0 and Kent State 3-2. Rachael Crucis was named to All-Tournament team after a 48-dig weekend.
Coming Up
The Mastodons will hit the road once again for the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia for three matches. The Mastodons will play Navy, which went 3-1 in the opening weekend of the season, the host Flames, who have not played a match yet, and Old Dominion, which went 1-2 in their home tournament last week.
