Purdue Fort Wayne Women's Golf Leads Cardinal Classic Through 36 Holes

YORKTOWN, Ind. - Through 36 holes at the Cardinal Classic, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team is leading the 16-team field with a score of 304-305-609. The Mastodons are tied with Akron with 18 to play.
The Mastodons had all five players shoot in the 70's on Monday, September 20 at The Players Club. The 'Dons have a lead over four Horizon League programs: Cleveland State (614), IUPUI (615), Oakland (624) and Northern Kentucky (652). As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne was the only team to go even on par-5 holes.
Anna Olafsdottir shot a 75-76-151 to finish the day in a tie with teammate Taylor Norman in 10th. The Iceland native started her day with a pair of pars and a birdie. She moved to 2-under after birdies on holes one and two. In her second round, she got birdies on the 506-yard par-5 fourth and the 188-yard par-3 fifth hole.
Mastodon newcomer Norman turned in a 76-75-151 in her first action competing for the 'Dons' team score. In the morning round, Norman got a birdie to fall on the 356-yard hole one. She ended her opening round with six straight pars. In her second go-around, she birdied 13, then after making the carded another birdie on four. Norman finished her day with a birdie on 11.
Laura Caetano, who shot a 79-75-154, got two birdies in her opening round on holes 15 and 17. In the second round of the day, Caetano had two more birdies coming on holes three and 17. With 18 to play, the senior from Brazil is in 22nd place.
Senior Emma Schroeder shot 77-79-156 to finish the first 36 holes in a tie for 36th place with Kennedy Brooker. She started on hole 10, firing a 35 on the back thanks to birdies on 11 and 15. After making the turn, she got two more birdies to go on holes one and four. In the evening round, Schroeder repeated with a birdie on one, then another on hole three. For the day, she tied Olafsdottir for the second-best average on par-5 holes in the field.
Brooker had her first round score of 76 taken for the team score. She had 15 pars in the morning session. In round two, she turned in 11 more pars to place in the top-five in the field in total pars. She finished her rounds with scores of 76-80-156.
Ball State's Liz Kim is leading the individual race, as she shot a 1-under 143.
The third and final round of the Cardinal Classic will be played tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 20) in the morning. The 'Dons will fire off with a shotgun start, with a start time to be determined based on the weather.
