Milwaukee Takes Horizon League Match From Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-10, 16-25, 25-12, 25-17) Horizon League match to the Milwaukee Panthers on Friday (Sept. 24) in the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
Rachael Crucis led the Mastodons' defense, registering 23 digs in the four-set affair. Molly Mirabelli had seven kills and six blocks.
Milwaukee jumped out to an 9-3 lead in the opening set. Ramei Jackson got two blocks and a kill to stop the Panthers' run. Mirabelli got both of her attacks to hit the floor in the first set.
After an 11-11 tie in the second set, Katie Crowe got a kill, Crucis got an ace, then Crowe and Mirabelli combined for a block to force a Milwaukee timeout. After the Panthers tied it at 14, the 'Dons forced Milwaukee into six straight attack errors, en route to a 9-1 run. Madelyn Wurster finished the set with two straight kills.
Milwaukee used offenses of .421 and .317 in sets three and four to take the match. Reigning Horizon League Player of the Week Ari Miller had 10 kills on 20 swings without an error in the last two sets.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 2-13, 0-2 Horizon League. The Panthers improve to 7-6, 1-0. The Mastodons are back on the Arnie Ball Court on Sunday at 3 p.m. with UIC visits the Summit City.
