Olafsdottir Leads Mastodons on Opening Day of Golden Grizzlies Invitational

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Anna Olafsdottir of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team led the Mastodons on the first day of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational with 15 pars on Sunday (Sept. 26) at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course.
The sophomore from Iceland finished day one with a 77 to place 20th with 18 to play. Laura Caetano was second on the team with a 79 that was highlighted by an even back nine. She had an eagle on the 324-yard par-4 13th hole, one of just two eagles in the field. It came after a nice drive with a tight tee shot, leaving a 60-yard pitch to the pin. She ended her day with three pars and a birdie on 17.
Emma Schroeder had an even back nine as well, finishing her day with an 83. She is in a tie for 36th after eight straight holes of par or better on the back nine. She birdied 13. Taylor Norman shot an 84 with nine pars to round out the team score. Casey Bunner also competed for the team score, turning in an 85. She had eight pars.
Kennedy Brooker (81, T32nd), Arny Dagsdottir (85, T43rd), Luiza Caetano (85, T43rd) and Sarah Brenneman (90, 49th) competed as individuals.
The Mastodons' team score of 323 put them in seventh place. Central Michigan is leading the pack with a 297 in its first day. Padgett Chitty of CMU and Ariel Chang of Detroit Mercy both registered even 72's to lead the individual race.
The final round of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational begins on Monday, September 27 with a shotgun start.
