Purdue Fort Wayne WVB Continues Road Stretch With Robert Morris and Youngstown State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team will have two chances at Horizon League wins this weekend, with Robert Morris and Youngstown State playing host to the Mastodons on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 1-2).

Purdue Fort Wayne has not lost to Robert Morris or Youngstown State, holding a 5-0 advantage over both squads. The Mastodons beat both teams 3-0 twice in the spring of 2021, the first time that the 'Dons met with the Colonials and Penguins as members of the Horizon League. The series against Robert Morris dates back to 2006, and the Youngstown State series began in 2001.
Know Your Foes
• Robert Morris is 7-7, 0-2 in Horizon League play. The Colonials dropped league matches to Cleveland State and Oakland, both 3-0 affairs. Their last win came over George Washington, which was also a 3-0 match. RMU is led by Abby Ryan, who is averaging 2.57 kills per set with a .127 hitting percentage. YSU primarily runs a 6-1 system, with Lexie Beeke leading the way with 8.33 assists per set.

No Division I institution has played more volleyball than Purdue Fort Wayne this season. The Mastodons are leading the country with 67 sets played. Southern Miss is the next closest, having played 63 sets.
Leader For a Reason
Katie Crowe has led the Mastodons in kills in all but one match this season. She has 231 kills, 68 more than the next player on the team: Maggie Castleman. The only match where Crowe did not lead the team, at No. 9 Purdue, Castleman did.
Double-Double Vision
In Purdue Fort Wayne's match at Oakland on September 28, four Mastodons recorded double-doubles. Rachael Crucis recorded her first double-double of the season with 18 digs and 11 assists. Madison Gates had 38 assists and a career-high 25 digs from the setter position. Katie Crowe and Maggie Castleman both got double-doubles from the left side, with 18 kills and 19 digs for Crowe and 18 kills and 11 digs for Castleman.
Saturday Night Five
The Mastodons have played six five-set matches this season (SIUE, Kent State, Liberty, Green Bay, UIC and Oakland). This is more than the entirety of the spring 2021 season, as the 'Dons had just one: a 3-2 loss at Green Bay.
