Mastodons Total 26 Assists In 88-61 Win at UIC

CHICAGO – Purdue Fort Wayne defeated UIC 88-61 on Saturday (Jan. 29) afternoon to sweep the season series with the Flames. The 'Dons never trailed in the game and held a lead as large as 34 points.
As a team, the 'Dons recorded 26 assists on 29 field goals. The 26 assists are the most against a Division I opponent in program history. The total is tied for eighth all-time in program history for assists in a single game.
Shayla Sellers led the way with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting. She made 3-of-5 from three. Sellers added eight rebounds, four assists and a season-high three blocks. Aubrey Stupp also had a career high, she notched 22 points with three 3-pointers while going 7-of-8 from the line. She had four rebounds and four assists. Meanwhile, Jazzlyn Linbo tied her career-high with 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Amellia Bromenschenkel was the fourth Mastodon to reach double figures by scoring 12 points. She added a career-high six assists. Audra Emmerson also had a career-high six assists to help the 'Dons to the record performance.
The Mastodons opened a 33-9 lead over the first 15 minutes of the game. The 'Dons earned the lead with a 25-6 run. UIC was limited to 1-of-16 shooting in the stretch.
The 'Dons went to the locker room leading 44-21. They scored 44 points in each half, a season high for Purdue Fort Wayne against a Division I opponent in a half. The 21 points the 'Dons allowed in the first half was the best defensive half of the season for the Mastodons against a Division I opponent.
The 88 points the 'Dons scored stand as the most points in a game against a Division I opponent since recording 93 against Eastern Illinois on Dec. 8, 2017.
Purdue Fort Wayne shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the floor, their best since shooting 55.6 percent at North Dakota on Jan. 5, 2020.
This is the first time the Mastodons have swept a league opponent since the 2013-14 season.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 6-14 (5-8 Horizon). UIC falls to 2-15 (1-11 Horizon). The 'Dons are back in action on Thursday when Northern Kentucky comes to the Gates Sports Center.
