League-Leading Mastodons Travel to Youngstown State, Host Green Bay This Week

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - First-place Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer (7-2-5, 3-0-3 Horizon League) will travel to Youngstown State (4-6-3, 2-2-2) on Thursday (Oct. 13) and host Green Bay (3-7-2, 1-3-2) on Sunday (Oct. 16).

The Mastodons beat Chicago State (4-1), Ball State (1-0), Southern Indiana (1-0), Robert Morris (2-0) and Northern Kentucky (1-0) and tied Bellarmine (1-1), IUPUI (2-2) and Milwaukee (0-0) in front of their home crowd.

Samantha Castaneda owns a 1.10 career goals against average, which is the best in program history among those that played at least 750 minutes in the net. This beats out the second-best of 1.68 from Sam Pavlika (2012-14). Her mark of 0.79 GAA this season is the best for a year-long average, topping Pavlika's 1.07 in 2012. Castaneda's 10 shutouts in her career is also a program-best.

Samantha Castaneda was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on October 3. She led the Mastodons to a 0-0 tie against Milwaukee to earn the honor. She is the only player in the league to earn Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.

Samantha Castaneda's four Defensive Player of the Week awards ties for the fourth-most of any Horizon League player in league history. Only Sam Hagen (15, Milwaukee, 2008-11), Erin Kane (6, Milwaukee, 2005-08) and Mallory Geurts (5, Milwaukee, 2016-17) are ahead of Castaneda.
