Hunter Mefford Takes Third, Mastodons Runners-Up at North Alabama Event

KILLEN, Ala. - Hunter Mefford set a new career-best at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational on Tuesday (Oct. 18) firing a 71-73-72-216 to tie for third. He led the Mastodons to second place in the 10-team field.
Mefford started his day under par, birdieing his opening hole. He finished the front nine even thanks to another two birdies on five and six. After a bogey on 10, he was bogey-free the rest of the way. He birdied 17 to move to an even 72 for the day. Mefford was just two shots back of the individual medalist, Austin Vukovits.
Kasey Lilly recorded another top-10 for the 12th of his career. He finished the week with a 77-73-72-222 to tie for 10th. on Tuesday, He started with four pars, the found five birdies over his final 12 holes. He birdied eight, 11, 13, 17 and 18.
Nick Holder moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard in round three, turning in 80-76-76-232. He also started his round with a birdie on hole four. He birdied seven and 14 to go with nine pars. His 232 put him in a tie for 26th.
Burke Pitz shot 72-77-84-233 to tie for 32nd. Like Holder, Pitz birdied 14. He coupled it with eight pars. Jadden Ousley rounded out the team competitors, carding 77-79-86-242. He parred eight holes.
Reece Compton competed as an individual, turning in 76-79-81-241.
The Mastodons 297-299-304-900 was the second-best in the field, trailing just the host North Alabama squad that shot 885. The 'Dons topped Horizon League foe IUPUI by three shots.
The 'Dons are done playing for the fall season. They will be back on the course in February when they travel to the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate in Orlando, Florida.
