Know Your Foe
IUPUI is 9-13 and 3-7 in the Horizon League. The Jaguars have lost five in a row to Northern Kentucky, Wright State, Oakland, Cleveland State and Milwaukee. The Jaguars won two road league matches so far this year at Youngstown State and Robert Morris. IUPUI is led by Briana Brown, who is averaging 3.77 kills per set. She was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on October 5.
Series History
The Mastodons and Jaguars have played 55 times with the 'Dons winning 31 of them. Purdue Fort Wayne is 17-7 at home and 10-16 on the road. The 'Dons have won the last two, including a five-set comeback earlier this season in Indianapolis. Sidney Schiller had 19 kills in that contest.
Welcome Back!
During Saturday's match against IUPUI, there will be a recognition ceremony between sets two and three, honoring the 10th anniversary of the 2012 Mastodon squad that won the Summit League Championship and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament. That team went 25-7, 12-4 in the Summit League, and beat IUPUI in the championship match on November 17, 2012. The Mastodons went on to fall to No. 18 and regional semifinalist Iowa State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Coincidence? I Think Not!
Four Mastodons have exactly 11 aces this season: Sidney Schiller, Molly Mirabelli, Taya Haffner and Rachael Crucis. What does this mean? I have no idea but it's definitely something.
That's a Lot of Digs!
The Mastodons had a season-high 91 digs in their match at Cleveland State (Oct. 14), recording 23 more than the Vikings in that contest.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne lost a Horizon League match 3-0 at Green Bay. Madelyn Wurster made her return to the court after an injury earlier in the year.
Coming Up
Purdue Fort Wayne will continue its homestand with Youngstown State and Robert Morris visiting the Gates Sports Center. The 'Dons will travel to Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky and Wright State after that.
