Purdue Fort Wayne WVB Drops Five-Setter to Youngstown State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team dropped a five-set match to Youngstown State 28-26, 11-25, 25-19, 12-25, 15-8 in the Gates Sports Center on Friday (Oct. 28).
Sidney Schiller finished with a team-high 18 kills. Rachael Crucis had 25 digs in the marathon match.
Youngstown State took the first set after 17 ties and five lead changes. The Mastodons won the second wire-to-wire after a 17-6 start.
The third set went to the Penguins thanks to a 5-0 run to go up 20-14. Purdue Fort Wayne never trailed in the fourth set and used a big run late behind the service of LonDynn Betts to take the match. She served for seven points in a row. The 'Dons hit .458 in the fourth set.
The Penguins won the fifth set thanks to a 9-1 run after a 7-6 Mastodon lead. Paula Gursching had the final two kills of the match, which moved her total for the match up to 26.
In the two sets the Mastodons won, the Penguins hit -.107 and -.067.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 7-16, 3-9 Horizon League. The Penguins improve to 11-13, 5-8. The Mastodons return to the Arnie Ball Court on Saturday (Oct. 29) for a match against Robert Morris ta 4 p.m.
