Strong Second Half Gives Youngstown State Win Over Purdue Fort Wayne WBB

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team fell to first-place Youngstown State 69-55 on Sunday (Feb. 13) in the Gates Sports Center.
The Mastodons were square with the Penguins through the first 10 minutes after falling behind 7-0. Aubrey Stupp led the charge back, scoring six of her 14 points in the first quarter. The 'Dons led by as many as eight in the second quarter, which is how many points Sylare Starks scored off the bench in the period. She buried a pair of triples to match Stupp's 3-point efforts for the quarter.
The Mastodons took a five-point lead into halftime.
Player of the Year candidate Lilly Ritz and Megan Callahan led the Penguins on a charge back in the second half. Ritz scored 12 of her 18 and Callahan scored 15 of her 19 in the second half.
The 'Dons were 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from beyond the arc, their ninth game shooting above 35 percent from 3-point range. The difference came on the boards, as YSU out-rebounded Purdue Fort Wayne 40-18. Starks and Stupp led the Mastodons in scoring with 15 and 14 points, respectively. The Mastodons had just 10 turnovers, tying a season-low against Division I foes.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 8-17, 6-11 Horizon League, while Youngstown State stays atop the league at 21-4, 15-3. The Mastodons will take the floor again on Thursday (Feb. 17) at Detroit Mercy. The Titans are still looking for their first win this season.
