HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Picking up right where he left off, Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf's Kasey Lilly is already in mid-season form. Through 36 holes at the Orlando Invitational, the junior is leading the field with a 3-under 141 at the Mission Inn Resort.
Held at the same course as the Horizon League Championship will be in late April, the Orlando Invitational is giving the Mastodons a preview of what they'll see at the 2022 Championship. With the same course layout and nine Horizon League teams competing, Lilly's positioning is promising for that tournament.
Lilly started his day with a 4-under 68. He had four birdies, with three on the back, and a bogey-free round. In his second round, he saw three more birdies go down, pacing his round of 73.
Tyler Green is also in the top-three, carding a 2-under 142 after a 70 in the morning and 72 in the afternoon. In his first round was highlighted by three birdies on 1, 14 and 16. After lunch, Green had a back nine with four birdies and a front nine with one. He finished the day in a tie for third, just two shots off the lead.
Brett Seward turned in a 75-72-147, tied for 15th through day one. In the first round he had a birdie on 14 and 13 pars. In the afternoon, his even round came by way of five birdies and eight pars.
Reece Compton is tied for 46th after turning in a 77-77-154. He got birdies on hole 1 in the first round and 5 and 15 in the second. He had nine straight pars on the back nine in the morning.
Hunter Mefford was the final Mastodon competing for the team score, turning in a 78-77-155. Mefford had birdies on 11 and 15 in the first round and hole 1 in the second.
Luke Miller (77-75-152, T-36) and Burke Pitz (77-77-154, T-46) competed as individuals.
As a team, the Mastodons shot a 290-294-584, and is just five shots back of Horizon League favorite Wright State.
The final round of the Orlando Invitational starts at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday (March 1).
