Tyler Green Earns Runner-Up at Orlando Invitational

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Tyler Green of the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team had the best finish of his career on Tuesday (March 1), as the graduate student from Columbia City finished as the runner-up of the Orlando Invitational.
Pitted against some of the Horizon League's best, Green turned in a 70-72-73-215, tying for second after 54 holes of action. Green's third round saw birdies fall on holes nine, 10, 14 and 17. He concluded the week with 12 birdies, the second-most in the field. He is the third Mastodon to finish in the top 10 of a tournament this season, joining Kasey Lilly and Brett Seward. Green was five shots back of Tyler Goecke of Wright State, who won the tournament with a 210.
Lilly tied for fourth, just one shot back of his teammate, carding a 68-73-75-216. He started his day with two straight birdies, then had another two birdies fall on 10 and 12. This is Lilly's fourth top-10 finish of the season and third top-five. Seward finished in a tie for 17th with a 75-72-75-222. While he didn't have any birdies on the front, he turned in four on the back in his final round.
Hunter Mefford and Reece Compton rounded out those competing for the team score. Mefford tied for 37th with birdies coming on 12, 15 and 16 for his 78-77-74-229. Compton took a tie for 47th with a 77-77-77-231. He got birdies to drop on 13 and 15.
Burke Pitz and Luke Miller competed as individuals, both finishing with 230's to tie for 42nd.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne finished third with a 290-294-297-881. Stetson finished one stroke ahead and Wright State won the event with an 859.
The Mastodons will be back in Florida next week to play in the Benbow Invitational on March 7-8.
