Green, Compton and Mastodons Lead Benbow Invitational Through Day One

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Tyler Green and the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team led the Benbow Invitational on the opening day (Monday, March 7), shooting a 293 as a team.
Green had a very clean round of 71 (E), recording 16 pars with a birdie on hole six and a bogey on nine. Green is tied for first in the field, matched only by Reece Compton, who is playing as an individual this week. The Mastodons' lead is six shots heading into tomorrow, ahead of host Butler.
Kasey Lilly was one shot back of Green with a 72, turning in a four-birdie round. Those birdies came on six, seven, eight and 18. Hunter Mefford is tied with Lilly for third. His 72 was the result of three birdies, coming on holes six, 13 and 14, the latter two of which were his finishing holes.
Brett Seward and Luke Miller tied for 19th with opening rounds of 78. Seward had a birdie on hole eight to go with nine pars. Miller had back-to-back birdies on 18 and one after starting on 16. He had nine pars as well.
Burke Pitz is also playing as an individual, and he turned in a 75 to tie for 14th after 18 holes.
The final round of the Benbow Invitational will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (March 8).
