Mastodon Women's Golf Returns for the Spring

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team will return to competition on February 6 and 7 at the Motor City Cup in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Competing Teams
Eight of the nine Horizon League teams will compete in match play format: IUPUI, Youngstown State, Green Bay, Oakland, Cleveland State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Northern Kentucky, UIC. Purdue Fort Wayne will have an opening round match against Green Bay.

Las Colinas Championship Course
Designed by Gary Koch and built in 1992, Las Colinas (Spanish for "the hills") is an 18-hole championship course that offers quite a different challenge from El Campeón. It is an inland links design with generous, wide-open fairways, gentle rolling hills and large, undulating greens. Play a Top power ranked U.S. course on GolfAdvisor. Las Colinas was nominated as "Best New Resort Course" by Golf Digest in 1992, named "Best Places to Play – 4 stars" by Golf Digest, and has received "Top Fairways" recognition by Golf for Women. Its signature hole is "Alligator Alley", the par 5, 12th hole that spans 493 yards along a tree-lined fairway and requires absolute accuracy from tee-to-green. Las Colinas will also be the host site for the Horizon League Championship later this season.

Anna Olafsdottir, Laura Caetano, Kennedy Brooker, Taylor Norman, Casey Bunner and Sarah Brenneman will compete in the match play format.
One in a Brazilian
Laura Caetano, a native of Brasilia, Brazil, has the second-best career average in Mastodon history. She has an average of 78.14, which only trails Holly Anderson's 77.39. Anderson played for the Mastodons from 2018-21. Caetano's season-best of 74 came in the last tournament of the fall season at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
Icy Cold
Anna Olafsdottir qualified for the career scoring average minimum in the last tournament of the fall, and ranks just behind Caetano in the program's history. The sophomore from Iceland is averaging 79.62 strokes per round.
On a Roll! The Honor Roll!
Five Mastodons were selected to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll: Kennedy Brooker, Laura Caetano, Luiza Caetano, Arny Dagsdottir and Anna Olafsdottir. Members of the honor roll must complete at least three semesters at the member institution with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20.

Purdue Fort Wayne took fourth at the Dayton Flyer Invitational with a team score of 612 on October 19.
Next Time Up
The Mastodons will return to Florida next month to play in the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida on March 7-8.
